We offer allergy testing, including intradermal testing to identify the environmental allergens and develop a targeted immunotherapy.
Advanced care and a friendly team who truly understand skin and ear conditions – because your pet deserves to be comfortable and happy.
Allergies are one of the most common causes of itchiness in dogs and cats. They can be due to fleas, food and environmental allergens such as pollen and house dust mites or sometimes combinations.
At Cheshire Veterinary Dermatology we will discuss the appropriate test for your pet which may include an elimination diet, intradermal or blood tests.
For pets diagnosed with atopic dermatitis we recommend immunotherapy – a custom -made allergy vaccine (we use Artuvetrin®) designed to desensitise your pet’s immune system over time.
We know that no two pets are the same, and allergies are often lifelong conditions. That is why our approach is both scientific and supportive—giving you the tools, guidance, and treatment options to keep your pet as comfortable and itch-free as possible.

If your pet has been scratching, licking, or losing fur, allergies could be the cause. Here are some common questions pet owners ask us about allergy testing and treatment.
Frequent scratching, licking paws, recurring ear infections, skin redness, hair loss, or seasonal flare-ups are all common signs of allergies in pets.
Allergy testing is most effective when used alongside a full clinical work-up. Intradermal testing is considered the gold standard for environmental allergies, while food allergies are best identified through an elimination diet.
Immunotherapy involves giving your pet regular doses of the allergens they react to normalise their immune response. It is safe and effective, and the goal is to reduce the need for other medication.
Immunotherapy has a slow onset of action which can be up to 12 months. This is why a commitment of 12 months is necessary, and if effective, treatment will most likely be continued for the patient’s lifetime.
Allergies cannot be cured, but they can be managed. Our treatment plans will be tailored to each pet’s specific needs to control their symptoms and improve their quality of life.
