Meet Bernie

With over 20 years of experience in veterinary nursing—and fifteen of those dedicated exclusively to the fascinating field of dermatology—Bernie is a seasoned referral nurse, and she brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, compassion to our team.

Bernie was the only nurse that attained her RCVS Diploma in Dermatology in 2003 and is one of few nurses holding this qualification. She has since had the privilege of building meaningful relationships with both patients and their owners.

Bernie’s passion for dermatology has taken her around the world. One of her stand out experiences was completing the CO₂ laser course at the prestigious University of California, Davis in 2006. Bernie’s commitment to excellence has also led her to training in the use of advanced imaging techniques including CT scanning and the use of the Cone Beam 7G technology for high resolution assessments. She has performed over a thousand video-otoscopies in her career so far.

Her commitment to improving pets’ quality of life is at the heart of everything she does, ensuring they feel their best every day. Outside the clinic, Bernie and family have a real-life Superman – their rescue cat, Reeve, who came with a burn shaped like the famous emblem. He is fully healed, and definitely the boss in the house!

Bernie enjoys embracing the fresh air and open landscapes. There is nothing like a great walk, especially with a well-earned coffee and cake afterwards! Her partner and two boys do not quite share her enthusiasm for outdoor adventures, but she makes the most of her solo escapes into nature. This year she has set herself a challenge – trig point bagging in the Peak District.
