After qualifying from Utrecht University in the Netherlands, Ingrid moved to Lees near Oldham to work in a small animal hospital. Originally intended as a one-year experience-gaining opportunity before returning to the Netherlands, she is still in the UK 27 years later.
Inspired by a visiting dermatologist, Ingrid decided to study for the Dermatology certificate in her second job at Fairfield Veterinary Centre in Hinckley, where she collaborated with colleagues holding orthopaedic and internal medicine certificates. She obtained her Certificate in Veterinary Dermatology in 2004 and became an RCVS recognised Advanced Practitioner in Veterinary Dermatology in 2015.
Ingrid relocated to Cheshire with her English partner, working in the Crewe and Nantwich area, increasingly focusing on dermatology cases and beginning to take referrals. Additionally, she served as a weekend out-of-hours locum while raising her young children.
Almost six years ago, she was offered the position of veterinary dermatologist at a busy referral hospital in the Northwest, working alongside Bernie.
Currently, she owns three guinea pigs, named Waffle, Oreo, and Peanut, and she hopes to add a dog to her household again.
Ingrid and family love time exploring places in their campervan. She enjoys swimming, clubbercise, hiking, paddleboarding and relaxing with a good book.

“Dermatological problems are very visible, and nothing is better than seeing a red, hairless or crusty skin looking beautiful again, releasing a patient of their irritating itch or noticing that a previously very sad dog with sore ears is happy to play again. That is the reason why I really love dermatology”

In April 2025 Ingrid was invited to discuss skin cancer in cats on BBC Breakfast with John Kay and Sally Nugent
